T. and Jennifer McLeod have been selling organic products in various parts of the country for years, and their next adventure is right here in Northeast Tennessee.
“We hope that our store, McLeod’s Organics, will become a destination for people from all around as they realize the quality of products that we offer,” said Jennifer of their new Main Street business. “We want to help people understand the importance of supporting small local businesses in the area.”
A ribbon cutting is set for Friday at 10 a.m. for McLeod’s Organics to celebrate the new store coming to Jonesborough.
The store will offer an array of organic, clean and natural products such as essential oils, superfoods, bulk herbs, supplements, vegan protein powders, collagen protein powders, skin care, body care & cosmetics.
“We also have salt lamps, diffusers, candles and some gluten-free food items,” Jennifer said. “These are product lines that we have carried for years and that we use personally. That enables us to better serve customers with their needs. In the future, we are planning to offer a yoga class, wellness classes and live music events inside the store.”
In February 2011, T. pursued his dream of helping people to grow organic food when he opened Mc- Leod Organics in Huntersville, North Carolina.
“He started with organic garden plants and supplies. I later joined him and we expanded the business to include local organic meat and produce, essential oils, super foods, supplements and organic personal care products,” Jennifer said. “Although we loved our store and customers in North Carolina, we both felt a pull to mountains and back to our rural roots.”
Over the course of several years, the McLeods explored many small towns. As a Southwest Virginia native, Jennifer has family connections to East Tennessee, so they decided to visit Jonesborough.
Jennifer later discovered that her great-grandmother was actually born and raised in downtown Jonesborough.
“Immediately we both loved the look and feel of the area. It just felt right. We found a lovely home with some land and space for our animals,” Jennifer said. T soon made contact with tourism director Cameo (Waters) and we felt like downtown would be a good fit for our store. Thankfully, the building we are in was just coming up for rent and we were able to get into a great location!”
Jennifer said that she and T. are grateful to the Town for all their help making this a reality.
“We appreciate Main Street Jonesborough for orchestrating and promoting the ribbon-cutting event,” she said. “We are grateful for the warm welcome we have received. We are very pleased by coordination of events downtown and the sense of cohesiveness among the merchants. We opened just in time for Strolling on Main and had a great evening. We had a friend from NC playing live music in our store for the evening which made it even more special. We look forward to all the upcoming events.”
The store’s hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“Overall, our move to Jonesborough represents a new and special season in our life. We are certain it is the right place at the right time,” Jennifer said. “We are enjoying each day and we’re also excited to see what the future holds.”
