Love Lavender Festival coming to Jonesborough

From STAFF REPORTS
Jonesborough will be turning a special shade of purple later this month with the area’s first-ever Love Lavender Festival.
The event, which takes place Saturday, May 22, and Sunday, May 23, will introduce visitors to the joys of lavender and other herbs while encouraging the use of organic products in living healthier lives, organizers said.
“We anticipate 50 to 75 vendors, who have been selected for their natural handmade products,” said Pat Osborne, owner of Scott County Lavender and festival organizer. “Asheville (N.C.) has a similar annual festival called ‘Organicfest,’ which brings around 9,000 people to the town. We are setting goals to become just as popular.”
The Love Lavender Festival will be held in the gardens of the Eureka Inn on the corner of Main Street and 1st Avenue.
It will include seminars in cooking with lavender, medicinal uses of lavender, how to grow an herb garden and how to start a lavender farm.
Attendees will also be invited to learn how to make lavender wands, enjoy live music and taste lavender wine.
The event will feature a food court complete with lavender chicken salad, lavender pound cake, lavender funnel cakes, lavender lemonade and lavender tea.
And if that didn’t satisfy your lavender taste buds, a special herbal luncheon is scheduled at Bistro 105, where Chef Todd Dawn will create an herbal salad, lavender tea and lavender cheesecake.

The Love Lavender Festival takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 22, and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 23.
