Pioneers slide continues

A losing trend continued last week for Crockett (12-12, 4-7) as the team dropped two more conference games.
After opening the week with a 72-45 loss at home on Jan. 24 against Tennessee High, the Pioneers returned to the hardwood on Friday night in Colonial Heights against Sullivan South, a team Crockett had beaten earlier in the season.
After a 14-point first quarter, Crockett trailed by six heading to the second. Two straight six-point quarters found Crockett down 44-26 entering the last eight minutes of the contest.
While the Pioneers played an inspired final eight minutes, scoring 18 points in the quarter, they couldn’t climb out of the hole they had dug, losing 61-44.
Joe Ganger paced the Pioneers with 13 points.
The Pioneers have now dropped three of their last four games.
Crockett will look to snap out of their funk with an away game Jan. 31 at Sullivan Central and at home against Science Hill on Feb. 3.
