Pioneers capture wins over Sullivan East, South

The baseball Pioneers of David Crockett continued their strong 2015 campaign last week, winning both of their Thursday and Friday contests over Sullivan County teams.
The Pioneers took a 10-4 win over Sullivan East on April 9 in Jonesborough and followed the victory up a day later at home with a 13-3 shellacking of Sullivan South. Crockett is now 12-6 overall with a share of the top mark in the conference with Science Hill at 6-1.
In the Friday contest, no one was better than Crockett’s Isaac Barkley whose day included a grand slam, eight RBIs and a 4-for-4 mark at the plate.
After South drove in two runs in the first inning off Pioneer starter Chase Miller, the Pioneer offense exploded in the home-half of the inning batting around the order to score eight runs on nine hits.
Barkley accounted for two hits in the inning, an RBI single in his first at bat and a double in his second at bat of the inning that brought two around to score.
South would add their final run of the contest in the second inning, before Barkley would stretch the Pioneer advantage even further when he stepped to the plate an inning later with bases loaded and blasted a base clearing homerun to deep right.
He would collect his final RBI of the evening to slam the door on South in the fifth inning with a shot to the fence to bring home another Pioneer to run rule the Rebels.
Crockett now enters the home-stretch of the season with two conference contests on slate this week.
