Local golfers find success at Tri-Cities Junior Amateur
e area hit the links at the Tri-Cities Junior Amateur Championships on July 28 at The Virginian in Bristol and no other area was better represented at the event than Washington County.
Young golfers from Jonesborough and Gray captured four out of eight division championships at the event.
Jonesboroughs Jack Rhea shot a 2-under-par, 70 to win the boys 16-18 division and former Boone golfer Haley Wagner captured the girls 12-18 division championship with a 71.
Jonesboroughs Noah Turner shot a 46 on nine to win the boys 9-10 championship after a dominant six-stroke advantage.
The largest victory of the afternoon came from Jonesboroughs Lexanne Halama playing in the girls 8-11 division. She coasted to an impressive 22 stroke win after shooting a 36 on nine holes.
Other strong performances came from Jonesboroughs Alex Bradford who finished in a fourth- place tie in the boys 13-15 division with an 80. Grays Jackson Skeen finished second in the boys 10-13 division with a nine-hole 43 and only a shot back from the winner.
In the boys 10-11 category, Grays Casey Whitling finished second behind Turner with a 52, and Jonesboroughs Addison Baggarly placed third in the girls 12-18 division with a 77, only six strokes off of Wagners championship round.
