The David Crockett Lady Pioneers defeated Science Hill 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-10) on Tuesday night at Topper Palace to gave the Lady Pioneers a rare feat of sweeping the season series with the Lady Toppers.
Sydney Fox had 20 assists and 12 digs for the Lady Pioneers, who were able to fight back and take the contest. That fight and determination was encouraging to their coach.
“We came in and took care of business and we finished,” David Crockett coach Jill Daves said. “That has been a big struggle for us. We are young and we continue to learn.”
Addison Rowe, who finished the contest with 17 kills has been a key leader according to her coach. Bekah Copas has also stepped into the leadership role for the Lady Pioneers, which was evident by her 13 digs.
Breanna O’Shields had seven digs, while Bree Lawson finished with seven kills and six digs.
Daves made sure to not that freshman Morgan Barkley had a key part in the Lady Pioneers win, as she stepped up and delivered game-winning serves in the second game.
Now the Lady Pioneers will turn their attention to their cross county rival, who they host on Thursday night. Daniel Boone topped David Crockett in five games earlier this season.
But the rivalry will have a somber mood to it as the Lady Pioneers plan on honoring Kaylee Rabun before the contest.
Each player has made hair bows in honor of Rabun and each member will present a gift that they have made to their cross county rivals.
“We will play our hardest, Boone is a great team across the board, so it will be difficult, but I know we are capable” Daves said. “But we will play our best in honor of Kaylee.”
