Lady Pioneers split East Tennessee Classic

David Crockett High School Softball fell 0-2 against non-conference opponent Unicoi High School on Friday, March 23 at the East Tennessee Classic at Winged Deer Park in Johnson City.

The Lady Pioneers gave up two runs in the first inning against the Lady Blue Devils, which were the only runs scored throughout the game.

Crockett’s Lenzie Jenkins, Mackenzie Baldwin, Maddie Roy and Kat Pfiefer each collected one hit, but were unable to cross the plate in the matchup.

Pitcher Kara Weems earned six strikeouts for Crockett, allowing six hits, two runs and two walks. Unicoi’s Halie Padgett earned four strikeouts, allowing four hits, zero runs and one walk.

Unicoi’s Rylee Stiltner, Sydney Miller and Grace Ann Clark and Allee Griffith earned hits while Stiltner and Miller tallied for the Blue Devil’s two runs.

Later that evening, the Lady Pioneers rallied to outlast non-conference opponent Sullivan East High School 5-4.

The Sullivan East Lady Patriots struck first when Katelyn Loudy scored Samantha Smith, but the Lady Pioneers ran up the score in the third and fifth innings with two runs from Mattie McKee and Sydney Fox and one run from Mackenzie Baldwin.

Sullivan East rallied in the sixth with a three-run home run from Emily Watkins leaving the Lady Patriots one run shy of topping the Lady Pioneers.

McKee pitched six innings for Crockett, earning four strikeouts and giving up four runs, seven hits and one home run.

Crockett’s Weems threw one inning, earning two strikeouts. East’s Kylee Wolfe earned two strikeouts, allowing eight hits and five runs.

Last week the Lady Pioneers spent their spring break on the diamond, walking away from a Myrtle Beach, South Carolina tournament with four wins, two losses and one tie game from the week.

The Lady Pioneers will head to Kingsport for the Eastman Tournament Thursday, April 5 through Sunday, April 8 before once again facing Unicoi at home on Monday, April 9 at 5 p.m.

The Lady Pioneers will then battle conference foe Dobyns-Bennett High School at home on Tuesday, April 10 at 4:30 p.m.
