Lady Pioneers beat Lady Blazers

After earning their first volleyball victory of the season against Chuckey-Doak (25-21, 25-10, 25-19) on Sept. 10, the Lady Pioneers of David Crockett High School followed up with an even bigger victory over rival Daniel Boone the following night.
The contest proved, once again, that the intensity of the rivalry transcends a single sport, as both teams desperately wanted to claim victory over the other.
The Pioneers, playing at Boone, opened the contest by taking the first set 25-16.
Boone bounced back in the next set winning 25-17, but the Pioneers were able to capture the game in third and fourth set, taking a 25-17 win in the third before closing out the Lady Blazers in the fourth in an intense 26-24 win.
The Pioneers were led in the contest by seniors Erin Ward and Jackie Loyd.
Crockett will play this week on the road against Sullivan Central on Sept. 18 and at Volunteer on Sept. 20. The Lady Pioneers will conclude play this week in the Mountain Empire Tournament.
Boone will play at Volunteer on Sept. 18 and at Sullivan Central on Sept. 20 before joining Crockett in playing at the weekend tournament.
