Lady Pioneers, Blazers, fall in first round action

Both Daniel Boone and David Crockett High School girls basketball teams lost in their first games of the District 1-AAA tournament, hosted at David Crockett in Jonesborough.
On Monday, Crocketts Lady Pioneers suffered a drubbing at the hands of the top-seeded Science Hill High School Lady Toppers, 72-31.
While Crockett attempted to stay close to Science Hill – they were only down by one point, trailing 9-8, during the first quarter, the Lady Toppers proved why they came in as the No. 1 seed in the district tournament.
Science Hill began by leading by 21-14 in the second quarter, but then shut down Crockett defensively and outscored the Lady Pioneers 22-3 until the half.
Leah Rose led Crockett with 10 points overall. Brittany Ward scored eight points.
In Tuesdays District 1-AAA tournament action, the Boone Lady Trailblazers fell to the Tennessee High Lady Vikings in a close battle to the finish. The Vikings started out leading 19-6 after a 13-0 scoring run, and ended up leading 29-19 at the half.
Both Boone and Tennessee High had runs of 16 points each during the game, Boones at the end of the third quarter to take a 41-36 lead.
However, the Lady Vikings answered with 16 points in the fourth quarter to win 57-45.
Courtney Baskett led the Trailblazers with 23 points. Twenty-one of those points were from three-pointers. Kim Bacon contributed 12 points.
