GRAY — Daniel Boone’s Jaclyn Jenkins gave up one hit to the District 2-AAA Champion Seymour Lady Eagles and another magical fifth inning delivered a 3-0 win for the Lady Blazers to give them the Region 1-AAA crown.
The Lady Blazers will now host Gibbs on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. with a chance to go to the state tournament.
Jenkins recorded the first hit for Daniel Boone with a two out single in the fourth inning, but the next batter would end the inning.
However, persistence paid off for the Lady Blazers during their next at bat. In the fifth inning Kristen Hall found her way to first base with one out after she was hit in the elbow by a pitch. Jaclyn Painter put down a sacrifice bunt, but an errant throw by Seymour’s pitcher Sam Trentham over the head of the first baseman, rolled all the way to the right field fence and allowed Hall to find her way home to score the first run of the contest.
Another error by Trentham allowed Caroline Wilson to reach first. After the second out was recorded, Boone’s Abbey Harrison sent a single to the outfield and allowed Painter and Wilson to score. Those were the only runs that Boone needed.
The lone hit for the Lady Eagles came in the sixth inning, but a double play — from Harrison to Painter to first baseman Rhetta Persinger — thwarted any attack from Seymour.
