Lady Blazers 13-14 All-Stars win state championship

The Daniel Boone High School softball program looks to be in very capable hands for years to come after the 13-14 year old All-Star team captured the junior softball state championship on July 18 with a 2-0 victory over the Morristown All-Star team.
The championship win marked the fourth state championship the age group has won in as many seasons.
The Lady Blazers began their championship run at the state tournament by opening the round with two wins.
The first came over Morristown, where team ace Jaclyn Jenkins was dominant in the circle and at the plate, finishing the contest with seven strikeouts and only allowing three hits to earn the win. On offense, Jenkins collected three RBIs behind three hits.
The win pushed the Blazers to a matchup with New Tazewell on July 16 where Boone would eventually run rule their opponent in just five innings, winning 18-1.
Jenkins once again was pivotal in the win, blasting a two-run homerun to lead the Blazer offense.
In the circle for the Blazers were Courtney Berry and Christina Blevins, the duo combined to two hit their opponents while striking out five.
Playing on the softball field at DBHS, the Blazer All-Stars captured the championship match over Morristown.
Jenkins once again keyed the Blazers win, allowing just three hits, while striking out four.
Jenkins also pushed the first runner of the game across the plate with an RBI single in the first inning.
Carol Wilson was the other Blazer to cross the plate, doing so on a bunt squeeze.
The win allowed the Blazers to represent the state of Tennessee in the Southeast Regional tournament in Fort Myers, Fla.
The Southeast Region junior softball tournament brings seven teams from six states to compete in the tournament.
The six states represented are Tennessee, Vriginia, West Virginia, Georgia, North Carolina and Florida.
The Southeast Regional tournament kicked off over the weekend with Boone losing to Virginia 1-0 on July 28.

Boone was scheduled to play July 30 against West Virginia.
The semifinals will be held Tuesday, July 31 with the championship game taking place on Aug. 1.
The winner of the Southeast Regional will advance to the Junior League World Series on Aug. 12-18 in Kirkland, Wash.
