Ladies lose series of heartbreakers

Despite playing well in their three contests last week, the Lady Pioneer svolleyball team fell in all three of their games despite each going the distance.
Crockett opened the week against Unicoi County on Aug. 31, falling in five games, 3-2. Unicoi opened with a 25-19 win in the first match, but the Pioneers took the second game 25-15.
The opponents would split the next two with the Lady Blue Devils taking game three 25-18, before Crockett staved off elimination with a 25-16 win. Unicoi escaped with the win in the final match holding on 15-13 to capture the victory.
Although the loss was a tough one to swallow, the Pioneers returned to the court the next evening for a conference bout against Science Hill.
The talented Lady Hilltoppers jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage behind a 25-18 opening match win and a 26-24 nail-biter.
Crockett would bounce back in the third and fourth matches capturing a 25-18 win followed by a 25-15 win to knot the series at two games apiece.
In the deciding game, the Lady Hilltoppers handed the Pioneers their second tight loss of the week after a 15-12 final match.
The Lady Pioneers concluded their week against Sullivan Central on Sept. 3 with their third close defeat of the weekly slate.
After capturing a decisive first game win (25-13), Central held on for a 26-24 win in the second match to even the series at 1-1.
Crockett would take the third game 26-24 to pull within a win of capturing the contest.
Despite the lead, the Lady Pioneers would drop the final two games (25-21, 15-12) giving Central the victory and dropping their third game of the week.
Despite the close losses, the Lady Pioneers appear poised to turn their season around in the weeks ahead.
