Jamboree to kick off Big 8 football

On Thursday, Aug. 9, fans will congregate at the campus of Tennessee High for a yearly ritual that will summon another start to the school year.
Acting as an unofficial early transition from summer to fall, a new batch of high school athletes will snap their chinstraps for the first time of the year under the lights of a small stadium, dreaming of team success and individual immortality.
Football has returned to the Tri-Cities and, for most, the arrival couldn’t have come soon enough.
The Big 8 Conference football season will kick off at 7 p.m. with the annual jamboree in the Stone Castle at Tennessee High.
Each of the eight teams will take the field for a single quarter of play to preview the first result of the summer’s preparation and give a glimpse of what this season has in store.
Dobyns-Bennett and Science Hill will open the festivities playing in the first quarter.
They will be followed by host Tennessee High going against Volunteer.
The third quarter will be an early preview of Week 10’s Musket Bowl as rivals David Crockett and Daniel Boone meet.
The evening will finish with Sullivan South and Sullivan Central going against one another in the final quarter.
Crockett is set to begin its regular season on Friday, Aug. 17, on the road at Sullivan East.
Boone will open the regular season on a Saturday, Aug. 18, at home against Elizabethton.
