Grapplers compete in state tournament
Daniel Boone High School freshman Jacob Cutshall joined senior teammate Trevor Shropshire at the TSSAA wrestling state tournament over the weekend.
Cutshall, wrestling in the 120-pound weight class, dropped his first two matches on Feb. 14.
He opened the tournament with a 10-5 loss to Chip Brothers before falling to Charlie Rocha later in the evening 6-5.
After capturing the region, Shropshire entered the state tournament looking to place for a second consecutive year.
In 2012, the Boone grappler placed fourth in state at 195 pounds.
He opened the state tournament on Feb. 14 with a 6-4 loss to Kingstons Joshua Bain.
Pushed to the consolation bracket, Shropshire won his second match of the evening, defeating Franklins Alex Weatherford 7-1.
He continued working his way through the bottom half of the bracket on the opening day by defeating Micah Pressley 10-4.
Shropshire returned to action on Feb. 15, winning a 4-2 decision over Clevelands Oleg Stukanov.
After battling back into medal contention, Shropshires state run came to an end against Brandon Cantrell, in a first round pin.
The loss ends Shropshires memorable career as a Boone wrestler. Cantrell went on to place fifth in the tournament.
In the girls state tournament, David Crockett High Schools Cassie Buchanan placed fourth in the 138-pound weight class.
