Dominant Blazers run to win at Trailblazer Invitational

Daniel Boone cross country hosted the 42nd Trailblazer Invitational on Oct. 11, a 5k event where they welcomed more than 40 men’s and women’s high school teams to Gray.
The Blazers were dominant in capturing the men’s title, as Boone runners finished first, second, third, fifth and sixth for a combined 17 putting them well-ahead of second- place Myers Park of Charlotte, which finished with 65.
Boone’s top finishers were: (1) Adam Barnard (15:55.8), (2) Josh Routh (16:21.2), (3) James Garst (16:23.1), (5) Ben Varghese (16:55.6) and (6) Mitch Bronstetter (17:03.6).
The Blazers narrowly missed capturing the top five places by just one, as Sullivan East’s Luke Meade finished fourth.
Following Boone and Myers Park in the men’s event were Science Hill which placed third (100), fourth-place Morristown West (146) and fifth-place Jefferson County (152).
David Crockett placed 10th in the men’s event and was led by Dakoatah Lyons who finished 25th (18:22.2).
In the girl’s event, Daniel Boone finished fifth with 152 and the Lady Pioneers finished seventh with 267.
Leading all individuals was Daniel Boone’s Makenzie Jones who placed first with a time of 18:49.7.
Crockett’s Breanna Roy placed fourth with a time of 19:32.9.
Morristown West, Myers Park, Science Hill and Dobyns-Bennett were the top four team finishers in the women’s event.
The Trailblazer Invitational concludes the cross country regular season schedule. Teams will now prepare for the Big 7 Championships on Oct. 16 at Steel Creek Park in Bristol before moving to the Region 1 Championship at Daniel Boone on Oct. 23.
