David Crockett marched over the mountain knowing exactly what to expect from their counterpart, however that didn’t seem to help, as Mountain Heritage stormed to a 28-0 lead and never looked back. The Cougars grabbed a 36-14 win over the Pioneers on Friday night.
The Cougars rushed for 236 yards on the ground, and 113 in the air and outgained the Pioneers 349-226.
The mass amount of the yards came from junior Cougar quarterback Trey Robinson who rushed the ball 14 times for 85 yards, while Austin Keener finished the night with 12 carries for 55 yards. Cole Burleson had six carries for 44 yards. Robinson also passed 5 for 12 for 113 yards and scored a touchdown in the air and on the ground.
The rushing game never got going for the Pioneers, as senior standout T.K. Hill finished the night 13 carries for 45 yards and a fumble before leaving with almost seven minutes left in the final quarter due to cramping. The Pioneers finished the night with 86 yards on the ground, with 18 coming from quarterback Cole Ricker who rushed seven times.
Ricker finished the night 7-of-11 for 53 yards and interception. The biggest pass play of the game when he connected on a 27-yard pick-up with Justin Wade.
The first score for the Pioneers came on a 3rd and 13 when Hill tossed a 4-yard halfback pass to Darian DeLapp. The Pioneers other score came when John Barnett picked a pass off and returned it 12 yards for the score in the final quarter. Dylan Royston also had a pick for the Pioneers, while Logan Foster recovered a fumble in the first half.
