Crockett wrestling beats Sullivan East, Tennessee High

David Crockett High School’s wrestling team hosted Tennessee High and Sullivan East on Thursday, winning both meets.
Crockett 48, Tennessee High 33
In the meet against Tennessee High, the Pioneers saw several successful match ups. At 112 pounds, Crockett senior Tom Snyder pinned Tennessee High wrestler John Taylor in a time of 3:21.
Crockett’s Phillip Kyker, wrestling at 119 pounds, pinned Brandon Graham in 1:48 while the Pioneers’ Matthew Thomas pinned Joey Spanavich in 1:44 in the 125-pound weight class.
Rico Vaquero wrestled at 130 pounds for Crockett, pinning Cody Barrett in 3:26 while Pioneers’ Tyler Rome pinned Dakota Carter in 1:42 to take the 135-pound match up.
At 145 pounds, Crockett’s Andrew Acuna pinned Tennessee High’s John Jones in 3:43 while Dylan Bryant earned Crockett more points by pinning Jordan Ortega in 1:13 in the 215 weight class.
Also helping the cause, Crockett’s Jeremiah Rogers won by forfeit in the 152-pound weight class.
Crockett 42, Sullivan East 36
Senior Tom Snyder again stepped up to the mat for Crockett, pinning East’s Greg Whitaker in the 112-pound weight class. The match up lasted 5 minutes.
Matthew Thomas pinned his second opponent of the day in the 119-pound weight class, taking out East’s Robert Howington in 1:19.
Also earning his second pin of the day, Rico Vaquero came up strong for Crockett, pinning Bailey Hodge in the 130-pound weight class in 1:45.
Crockett’s Jeremiah Rogers, who won his match against Sullivan East by way of forfeit, was able to earn a victory the old-fashioned way against East. Rogers, wrestling at 152 pounds, pinned East’s Jonathan McConnell in 5:43.
Meanwhile, Crockett’s Dylan Bryant earned his second pin with a victory against Franklin Brown at 215 pounds in 1:32.
Crockett’s Tyler Caldwell won by forfeit at 160 pounds.
Following Thursday’s victories, the Pioneers were 12-5 in dual matches. They headed to the Halls Invitational over the weekend to compete.
