Crockett takes out Chuckey-Doak for homecoming win

The Pioneers of David Crockett High School started the second half of their season on Sept. 27 with a 27-13 homecoming win over Chuckey-Doak.
The victory ended a brutal three-game losing streak and moved Crockett to 3-3 on the season.
Crockett quarterback Ryan Burger helped put the Pioneers in front early during last week’s game, tossing two first quarter touchdowns.
The Pioneer defense kept the Black Knights off the scoreboard through the contest’s first 12 minutes.
Receiver Eric Day pulled in both first quarter touchdowns, the first on a 17-yard reception and then later in the quarter on a 39-yard haul.
The second quarter, however, played out much differently.
Trailing 13-0, Chuckey-Doak came together on both sides of the ball.
With the Pioneer defense unable to get into a groove, the Black Knights took advantage.
Chuckey-Doak scored first on a 5-yard run to break the shutout.
Then, later in the quarter, the Black Knights scored again, this time to take a 14-13 lead into the half.
A refocused Pioneer defense came out in the second half and locked down the Black Knights’ offense.
Crockett regained the lead in the third quarter on Burger’s third touchdown of the game, this time on an 11-yard keeper.
The Pioneer quarterback added his fourth touchdown of the contest in the fourth to secure the 27-13 victory for the Pioneers, plunging into the end zone from 6 yards out.
Burger finished the contest with more than 200 passing yards and two touchdowns through the air, and rushed for 53 yards to add two more scores on the ground.
The Pioneer defense played its most complete game of the season, holding the Black Knights to less than 300 yards of total offense, with less than 100 through the air.
The contest ends a two game home stand for the Pioneers as they travel to Sullivan Central on Friday, Oct. 4.
