Crockett swept by Cyclones

A week-long bout of winter weather had area high schools scrambling to fit in athletic events whenever there was a break in the snow. On Thursday, it looked like the David Crockett High School basketball teams would get to lace up their sneakers and hit the court, but another snow storm hit midway through the competitions allowing for only some of the games to take place.
The junior varsity teams were able to compete, however the varsity boys’ and girls’ games were postponed and set to be played this week.
The junior varsity Lady Pioneers took on the Elizabethton junior varsity Lady Cyclones, losing the match up by a score of 55-23. In that game, Crockett faced a 13-point deficit by halftime and went further into the hole courtesy of a 19-4 run by Elizabethton in the third quarter.
The fate of the Lady Pioneers was sealed in the third quarter when the Cyclones came up with several steals that led to additional points.
Crockett’s Abby Gladden recorded eight points to lead the Lady Pioneers in the loss.
In boys’ junior varsity action, Crockett fell to Elizabethton, 53-32.
In that game, the Pioneers struggled offensively as the Cyclones held them to single-digit scoring in each of the first three quarters. By the end of the third quarter the Pioneers were down by 18 points.
In the fourth quarter, the Pioneers made every attempt ot come back but their 11 points didn’t add up as the Cyclones scored another 14.
Austin Street led the Pioneers with 8 points.
