Crockett handed another big loss, this time at hands of Elizabethton

David Crockett High School traveled to Elizabethton on Sept. 13 in the second game of their toughest stretch of the season.
Crockett, who fell 90-21 to Science Hill last week, lost to the Cyclones 52-0.
The Pioneers will conclude their rigid three-game stretch on Friday, Sept. 20, against Dobyns-Bennett High School.
Elizabethton (3-1) opened the contest with four first quarter scores.
The Cyclones’ first touchdown of the game came with just a minute and a half off the clock as Christian Glover broke away for a 58-yard scoring run.
Elizabethton added two more touchdowns on the ground by the five-minute mark of the first quarter.
The Cyclones’ final score of the first 12 minutes came on a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown.
It wouldn’t get any easier for the Pioneers in the second quarter as Elizabethton added three more touchdowns on the ground.
While the Pioneers were able to string together a pretty good offensive line in their contest against Science Hill, Crockett could not get their offense going this time around.
The Pioneers totaled a meager 66 yards rushing in the contest, averaging just 2.2 yards per carry.
Their passing game wasn’t much better.
Crockett finished with 132 yards through the air, combined with two interceptions.
In the second half, the Pioneer defense tightened up against the Cyclones’ second and third team offense, allowing just a field goal over the final 24 minutes.
But Crockett’s lack of any offense nullified the up-tempo approach.
The Pioneers were forced to punt five times, with three more drives ending on turnovers.
The Cyclones amassed 439 yards of total offense in the contest, doing almost all of their damage on the ground.
Elizabethton finished with 405 yards rushing in the contest.
The one bright spot for the Pioneers was that they were only penalized twice, continuing to play disciplined football despite being down throughout the game.
Crockett (2-2, 0-1) will return home for the contest against D-B.
