Crockett earns victory over Sullivan East
From STAFF REPORTS
The David Crockett High School football team is looking to make it to the playoffs this year, and if the Pioneers season opener is any indication, then they just might be seeing plenty of playoff action this season.
In the first game of the season, Crockett headed to Sullivan East on Thursday where the Pioneers handed the Patriots a 34-14 beat down to start the year at 1-0.
The game was Crocketts from the start, with the Pioneers striking first in the competition. Crocketts Josh Richardson earned the first touchdown, capping off a 61-yard possession by Crockett with an 11-yard run into the end zone.
The Pioneers missed the extra point, putting the game at 6-0. Halfway through the second quarter, Crockett upped its lead to 12-0 courtesy of an 8-yard run by senior running back Victor Shepherd.
A Richardson fumble on a punt return led to Easts first points of the game, making the score 12-7 in the second quarter.
The Pioneers stayed in control of the match up with a touchdown by Dallas Townsend and a successful 2-point conversion by Shepherd. The score stood at 20-7 at halftime.
In the second half, the Patriots tried to come back, scoring a touchdown with about 10 minutes to go in the game.
With the score at 20-14, Crockett put the nail in Easts coffin with a 52-yard run by Shepherd into the end zone.
A 2-point conversion followed by an 8-yard touchdown, both by Hunter Abbott, added to Crocketts point total.
The Pioneers are off this week, but will return to the field on Sept. 3 in its home opener against Tennessee High.
