Crockett captures senior night win over South

Six Pioneer baseball players took to the diamond in Jonesborough for the last time in their high school careers.
Austin Casey, Cody Casey, Luke Hopson, John Long, Tyler Peterson and Troy White were celebrated for their contributions at Crockett on April 24 against Sullivan South in what turned out to be a great final game in Jonesborough for the seniors.
After taking a first-inning lead on a home run, South took control over the next five innings, eventually taking a 10-4 lead by the sixth.
The Pioneers wouldn’t go quietly, however, as Crockett began a furious rally to eventually seize the lead and the win, 11-10. It was a fitting end for a group of seniors who showed time after time they couldn’t ever be counted out.
Preceding the victory on senior night, the Pioneers captured an April 23 win over Volunteer, 5-3 and lost to Dobyns-Bennett the night before, 7-1.
The Blazers of Daniel Boone opened their week on April 21 with an 11-1 win over Volunteer and closed it out with losses to Science Hill 5-4 on April 22 and to Unicoi County on April 25, 15-5. Boone’s only other win came on April 23 with a 7-3 defeat of Sullivan South.
Boone remains in third place in the conference with a 7-4 record in the Big 7 and a 16-11 overall record.
Crockett is 5-6 in the conference, 12-17 overall and tied with Tennessee High for fourth in the conference.
