Crockett bows out in first round

The homestanding Pioneers lost in the opening round of the District 1-AAA tournament on Wednesday, falling to the top-seeded Science Hill ‘Toppers 79-63.
No. 8 David Crockett had the ‘Toppers on the ropes at halftime, leading Science Hill 32-36 after opening the game with the first seven points. The Pioneers led the first quarter as well, 13-12.
But the ‘Toppers rebounded back with 53 points in the second half, including 24 from one player, sophomore Jaylen Allen.
Even after losing the lead, David Crockett’s Pioneers till rallied to stay close to the Hilltoppers. The score was 51-46 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, with Science Hill holding a slim 5-point lead.
But the ‘Toppers were able to put the Pioneers down once and for all by swinging out to a 12-point lead in the fourth quarter.
Zack Garland led Crockett’s scorers with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Sam Tarlton added 15 points.
