Crockett alums qualify for cross country nationals through Milligan

Two former David Crockett High School students recently qualified for the NAIA Cross Country Championship while running for Milligan College.
Brendan Hawkins, a 2008 Crockett graduate, and Cassie St. John, a 2011 Crockett grad, qualified for the championships during a meet in Dayton, Tenn., earlier this month.
The Milligan women’s team won its ninth consecutive AAC title at the meet while the men came up just shy of knocking them off for the conference crown.
The women’s squad defended its AAC successfully with one of the season’s fastest races across the board as the Buffaloes captured three of the top five positions.
St. John, a Jonesborough resident, rounded out the Buffaloes squad with a personal best of 20:04 to finish in eighth.
On the men’s side, Hawkins, a Limestone resident, scored a top 10 finish with a time of 27:02.
Hawkins punched a ticket to the national championship as an individual while, as a team, the Buffaloes earned a berth to the 2011 NAIA Cross Country Nationals in Vancouver, Wash., with a nearly flawless 22 point effort.
The Milligan women and four male individuals, including Hawkins, will compete at the championships on Saturday, Nov. 19.
