UPDATE: (Region 1-5A 3 seed) Daniel Boone will travel to (Region 2-5A 2 seed)Knoxville Halls (7-3) on Friday night, while (Region 1-5A 4 seed) David Crockett will play at (Region 2-5A 1 seed) Knoxville Gibbs (7-3).

Washington County saw a historic event on Friday night, even if only one side of the county walked away happy. Daniel Boone was the victor in the 46th annual Musket Bowl, reclaiming the heralded Musket with a 14-10 win over David Crockett. The win also secured the Blazers a playoff spot and pushed David Crockett to the fourth seed. That means, for the first time in the two schools history, both will be going to the playoffs in the same season.

If that wasn’t enough, Daniel Boone running back Charlie Cole became the first Daniel Boone freshman to rush for 1,000 yards in a season after his 192-yard, two touchdown performance on 31 carries. He is currently at 1,041 yards heading into Boone’s playoff game next week.

Noah Shelton added an extra 72 yards on the ground. The Pioneers were led by TK Hill, who rushed for 98 yards on 15 carries in his final Musket Bowl. The all-time leading rusher in Pioneers history will need 20 yards in their post season contest to secure his third 1,000 yard rushing season.

David Crockett’s Cade Larkins tossed the ball 18 times, completing nine passes for 131 yards and a 12-yard touchdown to senior Justin Wade.

The Pioneers were able to get on the scoreboard first after Dylan Royston grabbed a highlight reel interception in the first period. The senior hauled the ball in from out of bounds and was still able to plant a foot on the ground as his body followed the ball. That led to a 30-yard field goal by Issac Stephens.

Cole found the end zone from a yard out the first time on a fourth-and-goal to give Daniel Boone the lead 7-3. He would add to that lead in the third period with a 42-yard rush with just over five minutes remaining.
