Boone to play in championship game at tourney

The Daniel Boone Trailblazers ended a 10-year streak on Saturday night – by beating the top-seeded Science Hill ‘Toppers 55-52 in the District 1-AAA tournament semifinals.
Boone will face Dobyns-Bennett in the championship game tonight at 7:30 p.m.
Led by Kevin Connell with 18 points, the Blazers stunned the Toppers, who came in as the No. 1 seed.
The teams’ scores remained close through the game, with Science Hill gaining its biggest lead, 40-34, with about three minutes left in the third quarter.
The game stayed close, and the teams kept it interesting, with Science Hill turning the ball over three times in the final nine seconds, and Boone missing three of five clutch free throws. But Boone managed to pull out the win by three points in the end.
Boone’s road to the tournament began with a win in the first round against Sullivan South, 65-60 on Wednesday.
For the first time in six years, the Trailblazers made it to the semifinals by beating the Rebels in a close-fought game, winning 65-60.
In that game, Boone hit 60 percent from the field.
Jordan Gray was the leading scorer for Boone with 20 points, and Connell contributed 17 points. Travis Keever also helped in the winning effort with 12 points and five assists.
