Boone falls to Science Hill in conference opener

The Blazers and Lady Blazers opened conference play on Nov. 22 with a visit to Science Hill. Against the perennial Big 7 favorite, the Blazers were swept on the night as the girls fell 58-35 and the Boone boys dropped the late game, 63-46.
In the girls contest, Science Hill (5-0, 1-0) jumped out to a 15-7 first quarter lead and never looked back, controlling the game from the onset.
The Lady Hilltoppers stretched their advantage to 31-20 at the half, but Boone kept the Science Hill offense in check for most of the game thanks to a strong defensive effort.
The biggest problem for the Lady Blazers was just a 1-of-16 shooting effort from beyond the arc. Science Hill added an eight point third quarter while holding Boone to just four points and the Hilltoppers exploded for 19 in the fourth to finish the Blazers off.
Boone was led in scoring by Autumn Bradshaw who finished with 10 points. Allison Littleton added seven for the Lady Blazers.
Preceding the Science Hill contest, the Lady Blazers fell to Morristown West on Nov. 19, 73-50.
Boone is now 2-2 on the season and will not play again until Nov. 29 in the Happy Valley tournament.
After opening the week with a 54-45 win over Morristown West on Nov. 19, the Boone boys played their toughest opponent of the young season in Science Hill.
Despite keeping the contest close throughout the game, the inexperienced Blazers just couldn’t sustain enough of an offensive effort to really ever threaten the Hilltopper lead.
Science Hill outscored Boone in all four quarters, opening with a 16-10 advantage after the first eight minutes and adding to it in each stanza.
The Hilltoppers maintained a seven point lead at half, but Boone would never get any closer as Science Hill outscored the Trailblazers by 10 points over the final two quarters.
Boone’s Dillon Reppart led all scorers in the contest, finishing with 19 points. But the Blazers could find little else, as no other Boone scorers reached double-figures.
The Trailblazers will begin play in the Hardee’s Classic on Nov. 26.
