Boone, Crockett softball teams face each other, other tough opponents

From STAFF REPORTS
April 21 was a tough day for the David Crockett Lady Pioneers. In a county rivalry match-up, the Lady Pioneers fell hard to the Daniel Boone Lady Trailblazers, 17-1
Natalie Sheffey and Jennine Duncan led the Lady Blazers with four hits each. Kellie Waycaster and Kayla Smith both had a big night for Boone, each knocking in homeruns in the second inning. Jessie Wheelock, Jenna Carmody, Andrea Rogers and Waycaster all had two hits each.
Boone appeared untouchable for the night with 18 hits. Winning pitcher Waycaster only gave up three hits.
In other county high school softball action last week, Crockett took on Hampton in the State Farm Classic on April 22, winning 4-3.
They came up with a loss, however, against a tough Elizabethton Lady Cyclone team, who took the win in the second game of the day, 10-4 over the Lady Pioneers.
On April 23, Crockett continued play in the Classic, winning against Tennessee High, 9-4. They weren’t as lucky in their game with Cherokee High School, losing 7-1.
The Lady Trailblazers played April 19, defeating Sullivan South, 9-0.
Boone’s only senior, Megan Walker, delivered a two-out, two-run single in the first inning to give the Lady Blazers the early lead.
The two runs in the first were more than enough for junior pitcher Waycaster, who gave up just two hits the entire game while facing the minimum number of hitters.
Walker lead Boone with 3 RBI’s while Jennine Duncan, Natalie Sheffey, Andrea Rogers, and Kayla Sanders added 2 hits apiece. The Blazers played flawless defence with Kayla Sanders making some sparkling plays at 3rd.
On April 23, Daniel Boone faced and defeated two North Carolina teams, taking a 10-7 win over Asheville’s T. C. Roberson High School.
Enka High School also fell to the Lady Blazers, 7-3.
