Boone, Crockett prepare for tournament time

Dobyns-Bennett proved too much for David Crockett’s Lady Pioneers. Crockett fell to D-B on Thursday by a score of 12-0.
But Thursday was a better day for Daniel Boone’s Lady Traiblazers.
Boone crushed Sullivan Central 11-0 in five innings. Cora Baker had a one-hitter for the game, and struck out 10 batters. She was also 2-for-3 at bat.
Also helping out on offense were Kayla Sanders and Kellie Waycasters, both 2-for-3. Jennine Duncan was 2-for-4. Boone totaled 11 hits. All players had two RBIs.
Earlier in the week, Boone beat Dobyns-Bennett 4-1 in completion of a suspended game, and then went on to beat University High 11-0 in the same day.
Boone remained at the top of the Big Eight Conference with an 11-2 record, 29-5 overall for the season. Science Hill and Dobyns-Bennett are also 11-2 in the conference. The teams traveled to Morristown for a tournament over the weekend.
In baseball news, Daniel Boone fell to Unicoi County 11-0 on Friday in five innings. The Trailblazers had better luck the day before, when they beat Unaka. Travis Keever ended the 5-5 tie with a three-run home run in the seventh inning, bringing the Trailblazers to an 8-6 win. Kevin Connell went 3-for-5 in the game. Also this week, Boone lost to Dobyns-Bennett 15-5. The Indians scored nine times in the top of the fifth, overpowering the Trailblazers.
Crockett’s baseball team defeated Sullivan Central 8-2 on Thursday. They also beat Unaka 10-5 on Friday.
By the bottom of the fourth inning, the Pioneers had a 9-1 lead. Aaron Blevins had two doubles and three RBIs, and Clinton Freeman went 2-for-2 and drove home two runs. Charlie Rupart also had two hits to help toward the win. Ty Shipley pitched, with seven hits over five innings, and four strikeouts with only one walk. Jacob Adkins finished the game at the pitcher’s mound.
