Boone boys win buzzer beater, Crockett boys also see victory

The Daniel Boone High School boys’ basketball team held off the Happy Valley High School team to win 55-40 on Wednesday.
Although Happy Valley outscored the Trailblazers in the first quarter 12-7, Boone doubled the Warriors’ score in the fourth quarter to come away with the win.
Kevin Connell and Hayden Chandley led the Boone scorers with 13 points, and Chandley contributed two three-pointers.
On Friday, Connell scored a three-pointer in the last three seconds of a Friday night overtime game versus Sullivan Central to win it 61-58 for the Trailblazers.
Boone racked up a loss earlier in the week on Tuesday against Science Hill, 74-66.
With the win, Boone improved to 5-6 in the conference and 14-8 overall.
The David Crockett High School Pioneers are not faring as well as their county counterparts, however.
The Science Hill High School Hilltoppers handed the David Crockett Pioneers boys’ basketball team an 83-56 conference loss on Friday night. The Toppers began with an 21-5 scoring run, which was only ended by a dunk from Crockett’s Zach Garland.
Crockett (1-12, 7-15) was down at the half 45-28, and came within 13 points in the third quarter, but ended the game with a loss after a 16-of-31 showing from the foul line.
On Wednesday, Crockett earned a win against Elizabethton High school by a score of 50-43.
The Pioneers battled back in the fourth quarter to take the win.
Garland led the scoring with 19 points, followed by Joe Ganger with 11 points.
