Boone’s Lady Trailblazers head home after state tourney loss

From STAFF REPORTS
After a record-setting and groundbreaking season, the Lady ‘Blazers will return to Daniel Boone High School this week, back from the team’s first-ever trip to the Class AAA state tournament in Murfreesboro.
A 5-0 loss to Jefferson County in the losers’ bracket of the tournament sent the ‘Blazers home.
Senior pitching ace Cora Baker allowed eight of her 12 hits in the last three innings, with the Patriots bringing the score to 5-0 to end it. The Patriots also had two unearned runs to begin their scoring.
Jefferson County pitcher Whitney Leon held the usually bat-happy Lady ‘Blazers to just three hits and no runs.
As a pitcher, Baker went 29-4 for the season. But her success was not limited to the pitcher’s mound. She batted .386 on the year, had seven home runs and 45 RBIs.
Katie Clark, the other of the two seniors on Boone’s otherwise young team, batted .316 on the year with 10 doubles and 28 runs.
Boone’s team made history with its number of wins, most wins by a single pitcher and the first appearance by the softball team in a state tournament.
Boone made it to Murfreesboro with a win against Seymour and a previous win against Jefferson County for the Region 1-AAA championship by a close score of 2-0.
