Boone’s Lady Trailblazers earn state berth with record 40th win

The Daniel Boone High School softball team is on a roll — and they have one very talented Baker to thank.
The girls’ softball team won against Knox Powell on Friday 2-0 in the Class AAA sectionals.
It was the Lady ‘Blazers record-setting 40th win, compared to just seven losses on the season.
Boone will play Soddy-Daisy on Wednesday at the Murfreesboro Sports Complex and McKnight Fields.
Great defensive plays kept the Lady ‘Blazers ahead, and senior pitcher Cora Baker allowed just five hits, adding to her spectacular season.
Andrea Rogers helped bring in the two runs for Boone, with singles in the first and third innings to score Jessie Wheelock and Jennine Duncan.
The ‘Blazers earned the right to play Powell after their win against Jefferson County in the regional championship game.
Baker hit a two-run home run to bring in the only two runs scored in the Jefferson County game, the Region 1-AAA softball championship. It was her seventh home run of the season and 15th in her career.
She also struck out eight batters and only allowed five hits, earning her 27th win on the season. She has only two losses.
Defensive plays from Jessie Wheelock and Kellie Waycaster helped shut out Jefferson County.
Kayla Sanders went 2-for-3 in the win, with two singles.
Baker also led the Lady Trailblazers in their 3-2 victory in the Region 1-AAA semifinal game against Seymour on Monday.
Baker, the team’s star pitcher, allowed only five hits in the game then turned around to drive in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning for the Lady Trailblazers.
