Amateur Tour points race heating up

The Food City Amateur Tour points race is heating up after the East Tennessee Amateur.
In the Regular Division, Nick York, of Kingsport, rode a win at the ETA to the top of the standings and has a two point lead over Carlson Cox, of Church Hill.
Both players have nearly cemented a place on the Food City Cup team to take on the Pros in October.
Sasha Catron, of Greeneville, and Jonesborough resident Chip Spratlin are in third and fourth place respectively. Newcomers to the current team include Bristol’s David Talley in fifth place and Johnson City resident Bryan Sangid in sixth place after good finishes earlier this month.
Jonesborough resident Zack Breedlove is in seventh place. Other Jonesborough golfers include Dane Voss, in 12th place; Zach Botts in 14th place; Jared Songster in 24th place; and Michael Alread in 49th place.
The next stop is the Lonesome Pine Invitational and many players are still in striking distance of making the team.
The top three golfers in the senior division remain the same with Chuckey’s Mike Freels holding a very healthy lead over Tony Green, of Kingsport, and Wayne Hounshell.
Jonesborough residents Donnie Bradford and Mitch Cox are among five golfers tied for 32nd place in the division.
The Food City Tri-Cities Amateur Championship will be played August 28-29 at The Ridges Golf & Country Club.
The field will be limited to 48 players and will consist of regular and senior (50+) divisions.
Applications are open to all residents in the Tri-Cities area or who are a member of a club in the Tri-Cities area and meet the USGA definition of an amateur golfer and possess a USGA Handicap from a TGA or VSGA Member Club or course.
All applications will be reviewed to verify that each entrant has an official USGA Handicap Index. Any amateur whose name does not appear on the handicap roster will be ineligible.
The Tri-Cities area includes the following Tennessee counties: Washington, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi, Greene, Grainger, Claiborne, Hancock, Hawkins and Carter. Virginia counties are: Lee, Scott, Washington and Wise.
