Alumni softball game to honor Boone tradition

Daniel Boone High School will celebrate 32 years of softball tradition with an inaugural alumni game scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 10, at 2 p.m.
Registration will open at noon followed by player inductions at 1 p.m. A $10 fee will cover the cost of T-shirts for the game, which is open to the public to attend at no cost.
Over the program’s 32-year history, Boone has achieved a lasting excellence which is rivaled by few in the area.
The event, which will be put on by current softball Head Coach Rick Wagner in correlation with the Daniel Boone Athletic Department, will bring back former players alongside current Lady Blazers for an afternoon of friendly competition.
Participation in the event is open to any former varsity or junior varsity Lady Blazer.
The game will be played on campus with the number of games being determined by the amount of participants.
A homerun derby at noon will available for any former alumnus to participate in for $5.
Boone will provide a pitching machine and catcher for both the derby and the game.
“Coach Wagner has built a strong program and it’s a lot like family for current and past players,” Daniel Boone Athletic Director Danny Good said. “He’s stayed in touch with a lot of the young ladies who began the second phase of their life after leaving Daniel Boone High School. He wants to bring these ladies back so these current players have an opportunity to meet them and build on the tradition that has been established.”
By uniting current and former players, Wagner and the Boone softball program are ensuring that the rich tradition will continue to live on.
“Wagner’s program is very team oriented and that goes a long way with folks coming back to support the program they have left,” Good said.
The Daniel Boone Athletic Department will purchase all former players tickets for admission to the school’s homecoming game on Friday, Sept. 9, where the alums will be honored.
