Kenneth Lawson

Kenneth Richard Lawson, 66, 1108 Hidden Valley Drive, Jonesborough, passed away Friday, October 12, 2012, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous fight with Lou Gehrig’s disease.
He was a native of Washington County and was a son of the late Fred Lawson and Loretta Collette Lawson McQueen. Mr. Lawson had worked and retired as Branch Manager for P.B. & S Chemical Company. He had served as vice-president to the Jonesborough Little League in the mid 1980s.
Kenneth loved to play golf and enjoyed working on cars and building houses.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Danny Payne.
Mr. Lawson is survived by his loving wife, Norma Russell Lawson; four daughters, Sophia J. Dugger and her fiancé, Tod Parker, of Johnson City, Stephanie Slagle and her husband, Darrell, of Jonesborough, Cindy Saylor and her husband, Rocky, of Jonesborough, and Angela McPeck and her husband, Brian, also of Jonesborough; a very special friend that he loved as a son, Mark Dugger, Jonesborough; a brother, Robert Lawson and his wife, Susanne, of Atlanta; two sisters, Betty Sims and her husband, Jim, of Jonesborough, and Patsy Burgdorf and her husband, Jim, of Fairfax, VA; nine grandchildren, Erica Loyd, Kourtney Patchell, Brittany Greer, Tymber Miller, Mekael Dugger, Cody Dugger, Elijah Dugger, Rebecca Saylor and Rachel Saylor; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service was conducted Monday, October 15, 2012, at Appalachian Funeral Home with the Rev. Dava Lee Russell and Rev. Darrell Slagle officiating. Special music was provided by his sons-in-law.
Graveside services will be held at the Maple Lawn Cemetery in Jonesborough at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 16, 2012.
Active pallbearers will be Pete Story, Gordon Cox, Larry Counts, Ernie Hines, Stanley Gross, Carl McComb, Ray Webb and John Russell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Eugene Russell, Leroy Russell, Jerry Russell, Ronnie Joe Russell, Bob Lawson, John Bradley, Mekael and Cody Dugger. For those who are attending this service you are asked to meet at the funeral home Tuesday by 10:30 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the ALS Association, Tennessee Chapter, 301 Louis Street, Suite, 306, Kingsport, TN 37660.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. James Hansen and the Johnson City Medical Center Hospice Group, including Brad Williams, Adam Johnson and Rebecca Church for their loving care they provided.
