Water line needs relocating for traffic circle

A 6-inch water line near an impending traffic construction project will be relocated following approval of a bid from members of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen at their May meeting.
The water line has to be moved before the Tennessee Department of Transportation comes in to construct a traffic circle at the Five Points intersection on State Route 81.
While town crews will do much of the work themselves, Pipeline Construction Co., of Knoxville, will do the necessary boring under the highway.
The BMA unanimously approved the company’s bid of $36,750 to do the work.
The boring of a 10-inch casing will allow town crews to install the 6-inch ductile iron pipe in the casing under the highway.
The 140 feet of pipe needs to be relocated by August per a request from TDOT, according to Town Administrator Bob Browning.
“I’m glad we are able to do this project ahead of time so when TDOT shows up to do their part, we won’t be an impediment,” said Jonesborough Mayor Kelly Wolfe.
TDOT is constructing a traffic circle at the busy intersection in an attempt to make travel safer in the area.
