Washington County’s Kiernan recognized as First District Supervisor of the Year

Dr. Susan M. Kiernan of the Washington County Department of Education recently received recognition as the First District 2010 Supervisor of the Year.
The supervisor is selected for meritorious service in education and outstanding leadership achievement that leads to overall improvements in their schools.
Kiernan, who has served in her current capacity since 2001, received the honor during a recent meeting of the First District Supervisors’ Study Council. Nominees must have a minimum of 15 years of professional experience in the Tennessee public schools and currently serve in a systemwide, district, or statewide supervisory position.
Kiernan is the assistant director of materials and curriculum in the school system and her duties include purchasing agent, textbook coordinator, human resources and public information officer.
Prior to her move to the central office, Kiernan was a mathematics and science teacher at Sulphur Springs School and administrator at Sulphur Springs and Fall Branch Schools.
Kiernan will be honored in September 2010 at the Tennessee Education LEADership Conference in Nashville.
One supervisor from across the state will be chosen as Tennessee’s Supervisor of the year. The winner and eight finalists will all be specially recognized and presented awards.
