Town police, fire departments experience active month of June

The Jonesborough Department of Public Safety arrested 27 people in June, on a total of 35 charges, including three DUIs and several public intoxication and drug violations.
Police also issued more than 80 citations in June, 34 of which were for speeding.
The majority of tickets were written on West Jackson Boulevard.
Twenty-three traffic crashes were reported in June, the majority taking place on East Jackson Boulevard.Four of the crashes resulted in injuries.
Traffic cameras registered 578 violations in June, with 433 violations being mailed to motorists.
Approximately half of the tickets were issued for red light violations while the other half were for speeding.
The highest number of red light violations occurred on Forrest Drive at East Jackson Boulevard. The majority of speeding violations were issued from traffic headed westbound on East Jackson Boulevard at Headtown Road.
Jonesborough firefighters stayed busy in June as well, answering nearly 50 calls for service including two structure fires.
The fires took place at 106 Three St. and 1601 E. Jackson Blvd.
The Jackson Boulevard fire was at Cherokee Small Engine Repair, where firefighters showed up on June 15 to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the front of the building.
Firefighters were able to control the fire; however, contents inside the shop suffered heavy heat that caused the mowers and stock inside to melt down to approximately 3 feet off the floor.
