Seeking first term
“As a general rule, I enjoy working with people in my professional life and my civic life, such as through Kiwanis and my church,” Wise said. “We can achieve more working together.”
Wise said it is not helpful to have a dynamic among county entities of trying to one-up the other in economic development. “We should concentrate on keeping property taxes low and maximizing services,” he said. “Collectively, we can move things in a very positive direction.”
1. Which committees would you like to serve on and why?
“The CIA Committee because the current structure of the county commission needs to be evaluated, and I think that would be the appropriate committee.
“Also the Budget Committee because the decisions have far-reaching impact to the financial health of the county.”
2. What factors should be considered in a decision on whether commissioners receive benefits?
“I’ve already made a public statement that I would not take them.
“Are we treating part-time commissioners like other part-time employees?
“Also, how are we treating commissioners across the commission body — how is Commissioner A valued at $900 more than Commissioner B?
“There is also the longtime liability and expense it creates for the county with rising health-care costs.
“What is the implication to the risk pool by having commissioners on the health insurance — does it make it better and provide more opportunities?”
