Spicy chefs sought for town’s 3rd Annual Chili Cook-Off

Think you’ve got what it takes to take home the coveted title of Jonesborough’s best chili?
The Jonesborough Area Merchants and Services Association is now accepting entries for its 3rd Annual Chili Cook-Off to be held on Sunday, Oct. 12, from noon to 4 p.m. at Storytelling Park just behind the International Storytelling Center.
Entry rules include:
• Chili must be cooked from scratch at home or an alternate location.
• Teams must produce 5 gallons of chili for judging and public tasting. Sides to compliment chili are allowed.
• Teams will be expected to bring their chili entries hot and ready to eat. Teams may bring their own heating source to keep their chili hot and serve out of for a discounted entry fee of $15.  If a team needs a chafing dish and sterno, the entry fee is $20. No electricity will be provided to any entry. Entry fee for JAMSA members is $10.
• Teams may provide a pop up canopy tent and chairs if they desire. Chafer, sterno, one table, spoons and napkins for tasting can be provided.
• Booth set up begins at 10 a.m. with judging at 11:30 a.m. The event opens to the public at noon on Sunday, Oct. 12.
• Entries will be judged on taste, color, aroma, consistency and aftertaste. Prizes will be given in three categories: Chili Champion, People’s Choice and Best Booth Decorations.
Other activities to take place during the Jonesborough Chili Cook-Off include a children’s area, family storytelling, craft vendors and live music. Craft beer and other food items will also be available for purchase.
A limited number of chili cook-off entries will be accepted through Friday, Oct. 3. Proceeds will benefit JAMSA and Jonesborough Area Ministerial Association.
