SIXTH DISTRICT: Tom Foster
Jonesborough
Owner, Foster Signs
Seeking first term
I have a heartfelt desire to serve Washington County, Foster said. Ive lived here all my life, and I think my business experience will add valuable insight into the (countys) financial management. Requests received for local signage guidelines also enable Foster to learn of companies that are considering Jonesborough. While I cant talk specifically because of confidentiality agreements, this county has a lot of exciting opportunities for growth if we work together.
1. What are two specific goals you will work toward?
The first is to reduce the number of commissioners. I dont know what the perfect number is, but 25 is too many. I also think we need to eliminate insurance for commissioners. There are a lot of hard-working county employees who dont have access to insurance, and I dont think commissioners should receive full-time benefits for part-time work.
2. What will you do to help unite commissioners?
I will treat my fellow commissioners with respect. I know we wont always see eye-to-eye, but I think having respect among the commissioners will mean a lot. If a representative from an outside company comes in and sees commissioners arguing about a trivial matter in the newspaper or on television, it may discourage them from coming. Washington County needs to have a good appearance and a positive commission.
