New police officers join department

Town leaders approved hiring two new police officers following recent resignations of officers within the department.
Officers Scottie Greene and Eric Worley each resigned from the department earlier this year. Greene left amid disagreements with his superiors while Worley quit to move to North Carolina.
During the Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting earlier this month, members approved hiring Jason Rounds and Derrick Malone to fill the two vacant positions.
Prior to being hired as a police officer, Rounds worked as a 9-1-1 dispatcher for the town. Malone served as a reserve officer with the town, volunteering since 2006.
Both men will now go to the state’s law enforcement training academy.
Forty-six applications were screened for the two open positions with leaders in the police department interviewing 15 applicants prior to deciding to recommend Rounds and Malone for the jobs.
