Mountain City man charged in fatal car wreck in Gray

A Mountain City man is facing a charge of vehicular homicide after allegedly causing a car accident that claimed the life of a Gray woman Friday night.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened shortly after 8 p.m. Friday on Bobby Hicks Highway in Gray.
David A. Billings, 48, 509 Brown Place, Mountain City, reportedly was traveling south when he veered into the northbound lane and struck a 2001 Ford Focus being driven by Tanya K. Martin, 27, 30 Hidden Brook Lane, Gray.
Martin died at the scene of the wreck while a six-year-old child in her car was transported to an area hospital where she was listed in stable condition.
Billings had to be airlifted to the hospital, but did not suffer life threatening injuries.
On Saturday, authorities charged Billings with vehicular homicide and reckless aggravated assault in connection with the crash. At the time of the wreck, authorities said they believed speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
Billings was being held in the Washington County Detention Center on $150,000 bond. He was scheduled to appear in court this week for an arraignment.
