MOTS ready to tune up for spring

Music on the Square is getting ready for its annual “tune-up” in anticipation of the 2014 season.
“This is our fourth Spring Tune-Up,” said Steve Cook, MOTS organizer. “We try to have an event each year — music and a silent auction — to help raise money to support our Music on the Square.”
Set for April 4, this year’s Spring Tune-Up will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. at the International Storytelling Center.
The event will feature strolling musicians, good food and drink and the chance to bid on some pretty amazing auction items in both live and silent auctions, according to Cook.
“It’s not necessarily about getting a good deal,” Cook said. “It’s really about supporting Music on the Square.”
Still, it’s a support that provides ample rewards, he said. Not only do partcipants gain satisfaction in knowing they are helping to continue a more-than-decade-and-a-half tradition of free musical concerts every Friday night, May through September, in downtown Jonesborough, they also can become the proud owners of everything from a zipline tour package to a beautiful piece of art to hang in their homes.
“We’ve got quite an array,” Cook said. “We have a ‘Bucket-List Art Experience,’ where the winning bidder gets to spend the day in the studio with artist Nancy Jane Earnest.
“We have an overnight package for a visit to the Carnegie Hotel. We have a gift certificate for a lube job.”
Other auction items include outings at the Blackthorn Club and The Crossings, an invitation to Alex and Breelyn Bomba’s “Dinner Soiree,” and gift certificates and tickets to area attractions.
And throughout it all, there’s the chance to relax and visit with friends and neighbors.
“You can just hang out and watch everybody else,” Cook said.
Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door on the night of the event. They can be purchased at the Historic Jonesborough Visitors Center by calling 753-1010, the International Storytelling Center by calling 753-2171, or the Jonesborough Art Glass Gallery by calling 753-5401.
