Jonesborough police arrest 21 in December

Jonesborough police arrested 21 people last month, charging them with everything from driving under the influence to armed robbery.
Officers with the Jonesborough Department of Public Safety also issued 93 citations in December, totaling 146 violations such as speeding and registration violations.
A total of 29 car accidents were reported in December, the majority of which took place on East Jackson Boulevard. Three crashes caused injuries.
A total of 449 traffic violations were captured on intersection cameras in December resulting in 330 violations being mailed out to motorists.
The highest number of red light violations took place at the intersection of Forrest Drive and East Jackson Boulevard going south. The intersection of East Jackson Boulevard and Headtown Road, going westbound, had the highest number of speeding violations.
Jonesborough firefighters answered 35 calls for service in December. On the year, the Jonesborough Fire Department worked 14 structure fires in 2011 and a total of 510 documented calls.
Meanwhile, Fire Chief Phil Fritts was named a “Hometown Hero” by area business Modern Woodmen.
