Jonesborough man charged after driving drunk, ramming police cruiser and fleeing in Sulphur Springs

A Jonesborough man is facing charges after allegedly driving drunk on Christmas Eve.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called out to Sulphur Springs around 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 24 after people spotted a possible drunk driver in the area.
When authorities arrived, they reportedly saw Donivan K. Jones, 59, 449 Woodmont Road, Jonesborough, driving on John Garst Road.
Jones was swerving in both lanes and failed to stop for officers when they tried to pull him over, a report states.
Jones then allegedly rammed an officer’s vehicle before continuing on to Squibb Circle where he ran off the road and was apprehended.
Jones was charged with being a habitual motor offender, DUI, driving on a revoked license, aggravated assault on an officer, felony evading arrest, possession of a handgun while intoxicated, violation of the implied consent law and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.
Jones was being held in the Washington County Detention Center on $29,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011.
