Jonesborough man arrested after attempting to flee in car from police

From STAFF REPORTS
Jonesborough police arrested a town resident last Thursday after an incident at the Appco gas station on West Jackson Boulevard.
According to authorities, a police officer was conducting a traffic stop in the parking lot of the gas station when Israel E. Gillette, of Jonesborough, approached the officer claiming to be the brother of the individual being pulled over.
When the person inside the vehicle told the officer he did not know Gillette, the man reportedly walked away, got into his own car and attempted to leave the store.
The officer tried stopping Gillette’s vehicle. However, Gillette refused to stop and nearly struck the officer with his car while attempting to flee the scene.
Gillette was subsequently arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He was transported to the nearby Washington County Detention Center.
