Gershwin musical makes its way to JRT stage

The magic of the music and lyrics of George and Ira Gershwin, considered one of the most successful songwriting teams in the history of popular music, will come alive for the first time in the region on Jonesborough Repertory Theatre’s stage in February.
The JRT will presents ‘S Wonderful Feb. 2-12, featuring a cast of 22 area actors.
The Gershwin musical is an all singing, all dancing showcase, celebrating the music and lyrics of the Gershwin.
The show is divided into five mini-musicals, based on real events that were happening in the time and in the personal lives of the brothers.
First the audience is taken to 1924 New York City with a slapstick and vaudeville homage to comedic silent movie stars of the 1920s.
The voyage continues to 1938 Paris and the effects of World War II.
It continues on to Hollywood circa 1948, followed by the City of New Orleans in 1959 and finally setting in modern time.
Shows take place at 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays, with matinees on Saturdays at 3 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.
Special Sunday performances will be scheduled at 7 p.m.
