Vocational counselor, Northeast Tennessee Career Center
Seeking first term
“I was told if I wanted to win this election, I needed to spend anywhere from $5,000-$10,000 depending on the size of my district,” Zukas said. “In my house, we budget our finances, needs versus wants, and I did not budget for this large sum of money. I did not plan to buy this election. My campaign may not receive as much attention due to fewer signs and advertisements. This is also the way I intend to be a guardian of the taxpayers’ money. I’ll treat it as my own.”
1. What are two specific goals you will work toward?
“The most important issue facing the nation and our county is health care. I am strongly opposed to the quality of insurance the commissioners are receiving at the cost of we the taxpayers. From what I’ve seen, I think the members are more than capable of purchasing their own insurance.”
2. What will you do to help unite commissioners?
“I have always been open-minded on all subjects. I have lived in my district for over 30 years, and I am willing to listen to anyone’s point of view. I am a proponent of research if the matter at hand is new or confusing to me. I don’t vote at the urging of others or along party lines.”
