Employee wellness program gets OK from committee

Washington County employees could save $15 per month in their health insurance costs if commissioners approve the wellness program recommended by the Washington County Commercial, Industrial and Agricultural Committee.
CIA members unanimously approved the criteria during their June 11 meeting.
To be eligible for the discount, employees must complete all of the following requirements: a biometric screening and health risk assessment with Mountain States Health Alliance; an online health risk assessment with BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee; and three visits with MSHA nurse Teri Hurt.
Benefits Coordinator Michelle Shelton-Stewart said the appointments with the nurse would be scheduled at the time of the MSHA screening, and an internal system will ensure employees are keeping them.
During the meeting, Shelton-Stewart repeated her stance that the low level of participation in the wellness program does not justify the cost of an on-site nurse.
County commissioners unanimously approved the quote from BCBST for 2013-14 during their April meeting.
The county will pay less than $100,000 more with no change in benefits for the upcoming year of coverage.
